Christopher Schwarz is one of the preeminent voices in modern woodworking. Founding Lost Art Press, along with his friend and fellow woodworker John Hoffman, Schwarz has set out to preserve woodworking through the use of traditional hand-tool skills. Schwarz is the former editor of Popular Woodworking Magazine, runs perhaps the world’s most prominent blog on woodworking, and he prides himself on being a voice to trust. With “The Anarchist’s Tool Chest,” Schwarz talks through the essential tools for any woodworker and speaks to the value of being a modern anarchist - doing things your own way, by hand. He runs through planes, saws, and tool oiling practice so that the “lost art” might live on, and it makes the case that you can live an ethical, individual, and purposeful life with less than 50 tools.

From the book: “This book is the result of my experiences with tools for the last 30 years, from the time I acquired my first coping saw at age 11 until the day I decided to sell off many of the tools I’d amassed as an adult. It is the tale of my sometimes-rocky relationship with my tools and how these hand-held pieces of iron, steel, brass, and electrical wire have changed the way I approach my work and my life.”
