Ernest Wright and Son Ltd. is a family-owned scissors manufacturing company based in Sheffield, England - the original birthplace of stainless steel. The company was established in 1902, with family ties to scissor making dating back to 1860. Often overlooked, but frequently required, these scissors and their makers are part of a long tradition of fine craftsmanship. Wright and Son is proud of making products so reliable and ubiquitous that the user rarely needs to think about them at all.

Using only the best quality stainless and high-carbon steel blanks hot forged by hand, each piece is individually tempered, hardened and oil quenched. This gives the blade its needed hardness and prepares it for grinding, while the loop or "bow" is left softer for later fine adjustment. The blades are hand-ground and polished, before being assembled by official "putter-togetherers" - a position highly respected within the company for the level of skill and experience required.

A key feature of finely made scissors is the gentle curve of the blades toward one another, ensuring that the tightness at the point of cross-contact won't be disrupted by the material being cut. The result is a noticeably easy and crisp cutting experience - the opposite of the ineffective and inaccurate stamped scissors we've all been frustrated by. With their weighty history and excellent weight in the hand, Ernest Wright and Son scissors have been at the top of the scissors game for five generations. Accurate and easy to use, these General Cutting Out Scissors require little attention but deserve much respect.
