OUR MISSION
Hand-Eye Supply is a work-focused supply store for creative minds located in Portland, OR. Every item we carry and every project we do needs to meet our high standards for Utility, Story, and Design. We engage with our community through our Curiosity Club speaker series and other various projects.
BUYING PHILOSOPHY
We carry cool things you can use to make other things, but how do we choose? By applying 3-part scrutiny to everything we stock. Every item in the shop needs to meet our high standards for Utility, Story, and Design. Being picky has its benefits: everything we carry is practical, interesting, ethically-sourced and well made. We carry products from over 100 vendors across the USA, Europe and Japan. Our in-house brand Hand-Eye, is designed in Portland, Oregon and Made in the USA.
We stock things that are nice to use, hard to find, lovely to touch, and inspiring in origin. From research materials to tool storage, from pocket knives to attractive workwear with pockets to hold those knives, we’ve got something for everyone. We serve your needs from conception through execution and into life. As the retail operation of Core77 (the “11th most Influential Website in the World”) Hand-Eye Supply merges design-mindedness with the culture of craftsmanship present in our hometown of Portland, OR.

Most importantly, at HES we specialize in sharing your creative interests. We’re here to help you into the right mindset for fun productivity, whether that means project problem-solving, pencil selection, or sharing stories about tools we’ve loved and lost. We’re dedicated to personal, high-quality interactions however you reach us. Our customer service reflects Hand-Eye’s internal culture of customer-first concern and lifelong learning.
Our team sports tons of talent including a welder and woodworker, a bike mechanic, several printmakers, a film photographer, two van enthusiast’s and a freakishly high designer per capita rate. Drop us a line, we love hearing about your projects and ideas!
OUR COMMUNITY
Community engagement is key to supporting a creative culture, and for HES that engagement is more like an endless honeymoon. Our fortnightly Curiosity Club speaking event spotlights the varied talents of local minds and encourages ongoing learning. Our quarterly lookbooks bring together talented people and cool gear every three months. While creative work takes good tools and elbow grease, it also benefits from a strong social network!
